Partners in Growth

Research shows that inspiring, creative, and informed teachers are critical to student achievement and success.  In fostering life-long learning,
West Linn-WIlsonville School District places a strong emphasis on teacher professional growth.  From mentoring teachers new to the profession as well as new to the district to robust professional development and tuition reimbursement programs, teachers have a myriad of opportunities to reflect on and improve their craft.

The Educators' Handbook For Professional Growth updated in 2010 includes professional standards, and explains the professional growth process guided by our mission question "How do we create learning communities for the greatest thinkers and most thoughtful people for the world."

 PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLAN

Each teacher shall have on file with the appropriate administrator a professional growth plan that has been jointly developed. The plan shall reflect the teacher's goal (s) for professional development.

The Professional Growth Plan is designed to provide teachers with a vehicle for systematically thinking through the experiences which will truly help them develop and grow as professional educators. The Professional Growth Plan will help give direction to the development of annual goals.
Just as the vision themes guide the learning students, these same themes guide the professional growth of educators in the community. The Educators' Handbook for Professional Growth has been developed to signal a substantive change in this process from an inspection /evaluation model to a professional growth learning model. This model recognizes that teaching professionals are actively engaged in improving understanding of the art and science of teaching.
