On Monday, May 6, thirteen of our Cedaroak students shared their learning, thinking, and talents with the West Linn and Wilsonville communities. Representatives from grades K-5 came to the School Board meeting and shared their writing, their math thinking, and their appreciation for our Spanish and strings programs. It was a great night to showcase our amazing students. I want to especially thank our entire staff and all of our parents who daily make it possible for each and every child to grow as readers, writers, thinkers, mathematicians, musicians, and in so many other ways. For the many families and our staff who were able to join us on Saturday, May 4 for our Auction at the Oregon Golf Club, either with your presence or with your thoughts, we are deeply grateful for your generous spirit and the tremendous support you provide our students and our learning community. Special thanks to Stephanie Moore and the Auction Committee for all their hard work as they brought us an entertaining and exciting evening.
Many of our students shared their amazing talents by participating in our annual Talent Show. For the many of you who were able to attend, I'm sure you all were as impressed as we watched and listened to the singing, dancing, musical talents, jokes, and so much more that was shared by our students. A big thank you to all the families who came out Saturday morning, April 13 to help make Cedaroak more beautiful! We had a great turn out for our first Cedaroak Green Cleaning day. If you haven't yet had a chance to look around, check out the newly replanted bed on the way in the front door, the weeded beds by the library, or the new plants by the wooden Cedaroak sign. In fact, we had so much fun, we're going to put another green cleaning day on the calendar. Watch the Connection for details. And a special note of thanks to the girl scout troupe and Earth Keepers team who helped man the stations, along with all of the families who put in the hard work.
This year’s Battle of the Books was amazing! 56 fourth and fifth graders participated in this reading challenge. The 16 titles came from all different genres. There were several fabulous realistic fiction titles including Out of My Mind, The Lemonade War, and How to Steal a Dog. There were a couple of fantasy titles including Castle Corona and Rowan of Rin, and a couple of multicultural titles including Star in the Forest and One Crazy Summer just to name a few. Our local friendly school book battles were held in February. Teams of 4 had an opportunity to show off how well they read and remembered each book. Every team competed twice. Then our two top scoring teams participated in the School Championship. The Ninja Readers and Four Crazy Readers responded to a total of 20 questions during the Championship Battle. Both teams did very well. The Ninja Readers went on to represent Cedaroak at the regional competition at Stafford Primary School. There were 59 3rd-5th grade OBOB teams present. All teams competed in two battles during Round 1. Then the top 16 teams went on to the bracket play. The Ninja Readers showed off all of their book knowledge throughout several intense book battles. The Ninja Readers proved how dedicated to reading they are. They were very enthusiastic at Regionals and represented our school well. Way to go, Ninja Readers! I am proud of all of the students who participated in this year's Battle of the Books! They demonstrated good sportsmanship, worked well as teams, and showed perseverance as they tackled 16 challenging books. I hope all of the teams found new favorites, spent lots of time reading, and are excited to participate again next year. Happy Reading! Mrs. Perkins 
Great For the School” fun run/walk on Oct. 5. The money raised by the PTA-sponsored event goes to art literacy programs, assemblies and student gardens. The entire school celebrated the fundraising efforts on Oct. 18 with a pancake breakfast and good ole’ fashioned pig kissing.
Because the school raised more than the targeted $5,000, Principal Peter McDougal kissed a pig during the morning assembly in front of the entire school. [Full Story]
