Boundary Task Force Meetings January 19 & 30, 2012

The Boundary Task Force met twice in January. At the meeting on January 19, the task force spent the evening exploring four draft scenarios. The scenarios were derived from the work that was done at the January 5th meeting. Some key dilemmas were uncovered through the work on the 5th.  These dilemmas were:

a.       How to decrease numbers at Boeckman Creek

b.      How to not decrease the numbers at Stafford too far

c.       How to address the potential growth of the Thunderbird development in Wilsonville

d.      How to address the notion of neighborhood schools

e.       How to leave space for growth at Lowrie while simultaneously balancing the other primary schools in Wilsonville

The scenarios shared at the meeting on the 19th, attempted to address these dilemmas. Table groups discussed the pros and cons of each draft scenario and answered the question, “I could live with this scenario if...”. To help the groups, Tim Woodley shared general demographic information and growth projections that continue to be associated with updating the long-range plan. The evening ended with each table group ranking their preference for each scenario on a one to four rating scale. The thinking, ideas and work of the evening will be used to determine two to three final draft scenarios for the task force to work with at their next meeting.

At the meeting on January 30, the task force was presented with three draft scenarios. These scenarios were derived directly from the input and considerations shared at the January 19 meeting. Each scenario was accompanied by a rationale for how the scenario was developed. Table groups discussed each scenario and then ranked each scenario in regards to which scenario they felt best addressed the needed boundary adjustments.

The comments, input, and rankings will be used to determine the final scenario map(s) that will shared with the community in February. The first community meeting will be held on February 13th at 6:30 in Rosemont Ridge Middle School commons. The second will be February 16th in Wilsonville High School cafeteria at 6:30.
