Wilsonville High School

Wilsonville High School, located fifteen minutes south of Portland on I-5, opened in 1995 with 400 students in three grades. In January 2006, the district completed a major remodel and expansion of the facility, doubling the capacity of the school. By 2008-2009, enrollment had grown to over 1000 students. Over the past 13 years, Wilsonville High School has earned a reputation as one of the top high schools in Oregon.

Wilsonville is a thriving city of almost 18,000 residents. The city is home to several major corporations, including Mentor Graphics, InFocus, SYSCO Food Services, and Xerox Corporation. The city is expected to continue to grow rapidly over the next twenty years, because it features some of the best industrial and residential building land in the Portland metropolitan area. In November of 2008, commuter rail will open in Wilsonville, supporting mass transit train service to Portland.

Since its opening in 1995, the staff, students, and parents have maintained that a strong sense of community is essential to student success. The staff and students, therefore, strive to ensure that every student feels welcome and is a valued member of the school. This sense of community and a strong connection to the City of Wilsonville have resulted in a high school with many impressive accomplishments.

The staff and students of the high school believe that an excellent high school must have top-quality academics, activities, arts, and athletics. Wilsonville High calls these characteristics the “Four A's” and is proud of its offerings and achievements in each area.

Wilsonville High has consistently been honored as one of the top three high schools in Oregon as measured on the Advanced Placement (AP) Challenge Index. The school offers 17 different AP classes and 45% of the juniors and seniors enroll in at least one AP course during their high school career. The high school performs equally well on state tests (OAKS), consistently scoring above state averages and earning a “strong” rating on the state’s report card. SAT scores exceed national and state averages and the high school offers an SAT prep class for students who would appreciate additional support.

The high school offers a wide range of clubs and activities for students, from Key Club and National Honor Society, to Equestrians, Robotics and Model UN. The ASB Leadership class encourages student involvement and each year the number and variety of clubs increases. The school values community service and hosts annual blood drives and raises money throughout the year for Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

The technical, fine, and performing arts programs at Wilsonville High School include courses in 2D and 3D art, choir, band, drama, video production, graphic design, photography, interior design and computer-aided drafting. The fine arts programs earn top rankings in league and state competitions, and the high school proudly displays student art in the halls, common areas, and with local merchants. The instrumental and voice departments feature an orchestra, jazz and concert bands, and four different choirs. The drama program produces high-quality plays and vibrant musicals each year.

Despite its short history, Wilsonville High School has enjoyed great success in athletics, winning over 20 state championships at the 3A level, more than any other high school in Oregon during that nine-year period. In 2007 Wilsonville rose to the 5A level, and continued its success, capturing league and state titles in a variety of sports.
