Inza R. Wood
The school was built in 1980 and has grown with the community of Wilsonville, not just in size but in its commitment to being a caring place with resources for individuals. The renovations and additions to the original building have been thoughtful. They have created spaces to invite and enhance learning. The most recent remodel, completed in 2005, added an arts wing, four technology porches, and a beautiful commons space where students eat, put on performances, and gather to greet each other every morning. There are approximately 690 students attending Wood. Each student is a member of a team where four core subject area teachers work with a group of students. This lets teachers learn students’ needs, increases communication between students, teachers, and parents, and allows teachers to plan interesting and challenging instruction for the group of students they know well. Getting to know our students as learners and as people is a priority. Wood Middle School invites, encourages, and guides every member of our school community to seek excellence. We do this through teaching that motivates students to find meaning in what they are learning and make connections between themselves and the world around them. By providing examples of high quality work, modeling competence and high expectations, setting up learning activities that prompt students to improve their work, having regular conversations where students critique their work, and proudly presenting and displaying students’ work, we work towards excellence with our students.
You can see these principles in action when you visit
our school. We invite you to visit and to find out more about our programs
and activities. Barbara Soisson
