Boones Ferry Primary School is the newest of seven outstanding primary
schools in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District. Built in 2001, Boones
Ferry is surrounded by pristine wetlands that contribute to its beauty and lend
a sense of identity to the school. Our mascot is the dragonfly, an intriguing
creature common in the wetlands and one that sparks the imagination of our
students.
While our building is new, the soul of our school is quite old. We are honored
to carry on the tradition of Wilsonville Primary School, an important part of
Wilsonville for over one hundred years. Just as Wilsonville Primary School
served as a center of community in the small town that grew up on the banks of
the Willamette River, we want Boones Ferry to be a place of inclusion and
community. We want our school to be a place where all of our students and
families feel at home.

While we serve over 780 students at Boones Ferry, we try to do so with a sense
of family and community. Our school was designed to be a place where people know
each other well. Each of our two main houses, Fauna House (K-2) and Flora House
(3-5) are comprised of four porch communities. Each porch serves as the living
room for four classrooms. The porch communities in each house share a commons,
music room, gym, and outside play area. This award-winning design facilitates
teaming for learning within porches and across grade levels within each house.
In fact, teaming with and for students is an important part of our effort to
achieve our number one goal at Boones Ferry—excellence for all.
Our work towards excellence at Boones Ferry is supported by three guiding
principles: (1) Treat each other well; (2) Do your best to learn AND to help
others learn; and (3) Practice excellence. Our practice of these guiding
principles is helping us to shape the Boones Ferry way.
We are learning that when everyone in a school treats every other person well,
we nurture the soul of our school. This creates the possibility of excellence
because when people feel included, respected, and appreciated they will work
hard to support their own learning AND the learning of others. This helps to
create a learning community within which we can study and practice excellence.
As we practice excellence we are building an ethic for excellence that is
helping to shape the culture of our classrooms and school.
If you would like to learn more about our school please visit our website, drop
by, or give us a call. We would love to show you around our school. I know I

work with you. Thank you for your interest in Boones Ferry Primary School.
