Stafford Primary School

When our students talk about what type of school Stafford is they generally respond that it is a place where they feel confident, comfortable and a place where friends are made. When asked recently, a student responded that, “Stafford is a place where you can work hard to learn new things like in math, reading, and writing. But also at Stafford, you can make lots of friends, play games in P.E., check out books from the library, and sing songs in music. Stafford is somewhere you can have fun!” Another student commented that “Stafford is a place where you can always trust your teachers; you can always tell them anything. Where you can make lots of friends and run around at recess. The most important thing at Stafford is learning, and the teachers at Stafford are the best at teaching you what you need to know.”Our motto is “Cultivating Minds and Heart”. These two statements are perfect examples that we live up to our motto every day with each student.

Stafford Primary School is one of seven elementary schools in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District. Our district is a high performing suburban school district just south of Portland, Oregon. We have 540 students, grades kindergarten through fifth. As a school community committed to growth of the whole child, we offer a strong academic program supported by inclusive character education and rich opportunities in the arts. Our academic achievement is rated "Exceptional" within the State of Oregon.

Parent commitment and involvement in education at Stafford is tremendous which is abundantly evident in the range of activities they sponsor, the number of parent volunteer hours accumulated and the incredibly generous fund raising school wide. We are so fortunate to have a PTSA that partners with us on all fronts. The supportive community is such an important part of our success. We are so fortunate to have families that care deeply for the school. It is their time, efforts and support that helps our school to be an exceptional place.

Children are engaged in community service at the school, in the community and for the world. Students and families are supportive of each other and they organize a variety of events that give back to the broader local community. We also have a relationship with the Pakati School in Tanzania through the Africa Bridge Organization. All the different experience students engage in help them to understand the impact they can have on the world is far reaching and valuable. Guiding students in seeing the valuable role they play as a thinker and member of the school and world community is an important part of their Stafford experience.

One simply has to walk through the halls of Stafford to witness the incredible work of teachers and students. There are sounds of student thinking and discussion emanating from classrooms, there are beautiful examples of student craftsmanship on the walls, and there are the eager smiles of children to greet one and all. We pride ourselves on being a community of learners who are committed to helping each child be a great thinker, a thoughtful member of the school community and to helping each child succeed at their highest potential.

Stafford is a place that is also committed to adult learning as well. Each year we study and grow our instructional practices. We take each content area and study it deeply over a period of time. It is important that we continue to think and learn about how to engage students in meaningful and worthwhile tasks that press for deep student understanding. We engage students, teachers and parents in our school development goals.

Stafford is an exceptional school for many reasons. We are all so proud of our students and honored by the support of our community. Stafford is a tremendous place to learn, think and explore!
