Boundary Process and Boundary Task Force Information
Updated Dec. 30, 2025
We hope that each of you found the time to take a pause and celebrate holiday traditions with family and friends. As we look ahead to the new year, we know that many families have questions about the upcoming school attendance boundary process, which will take place during the month of January. Updated boundaries will be implemented starting in the 2026-27 school year, and do not impact the current school year.
Primary School Attendance Boundary Process and Timeline
With the consolidations of Stafford and Bolton Primary Schools, district work begins to adjust attendance boundaries in West Linn so that school communities and families can make plans for the 2026-2027 school year. Additionally, Frog Pond will open in the fall of 2026 and boundaries will need to be adjusted for parts of the Boeckman Creek/Stafford area.
We heard from our most impacted families during the Listening Sessions, that the sooner the new boundaries can be known the better for communicating to children and planning ahead. The following timeline will be used to guide the process:
- January 5 - 9: Boundary Task Force (BTF) of representative parents established
- January 12 - 16: BTF meetings to further develop draft boundary scenario(s)
- January 17 - 25: Community Feedback and Input on draft boundary scenario(s)
- January 26 - 30: BTF meetings to create Final Draft based on feedback
- First week in February: School Board Approval of Final Draft of new boundaries
Guiding Principles for Boundary Adjustment
The following guiding principles and working assumptions will be used by the Boundary Task Force and School District:
- Child-Centered Focus
- 10-Year Enrollment Boundary Stability
- Demographic Balance
- Accessibility to Neighborhood School
- Transportation - Length of Time on Bus
- Staffing, Programs, Equity of Resources
- Clear & Ongoing Communication (messages, website, FAQs)
Boundaries That will Remain the Same
While there will be changes for a number of families in our district, the following school attendance boundaries will remain the same:
- Middle School and High School boundaries will stay the same. Some students may attend a different primary school than the previous year; however, they can expect to attend the same middle school and high school using the current boundary.
- Primary school boundaries of Cedaroak Park, Sunset, Willamette and Trillium will keep their existing neighborhoods and may expand to accommodate neighborhoods of Bolton and Stafford. In other words, no neighborhood currently assigned to these four schools will change to a different school.
Boundaries That will Change
The following attendance boundaries will change due to opening of a new school and consolidation of schools:
- Bolton and Stafford boundaries will dissolve with school consolidation
- Boeckman Creek Primary School will adjust its boundary on the north end for some neighborhoods to attend Frog Pond Primary School.
- The Stafford/Boeckman Creek Choice Zone will dissolve and that area will be reassigned to Frog Pond Primary School or other nearby primary schools.
- Frog Pond Primary School will establish its own neighborhood boundary to accommodate current enrollment and future enrollment as the area develops.
Boundary Task Force Representation
The Boundary Task Force (BTF) will serve as an advisory to the Superintendent in regards to school boundaries. The BTF will be a group of parents from the impacted primary schools and three principals (approximately 17-18 members) tasked with developing a new primary school boundary map to be presented to the Superintendent for consideration. Any current parent from Bolton, Stafford, Boeckman Creek, Willamette, Trillium, Sunset and Cedaroak Primary Schools may apply to be part of the task force by completing an interest form. There will be 3 parents each selected from the most impacted schools (Bolton, Stafford, and Boeckman Creek), and 1 parent each from the other West Linn schools (Willamette, Trillium, Sunset, Cedaroak Park). District office staff and FLO Analytics will be available to guide the BTF through the process of working with boundary mapping and enrollment projections. Meetings are open to observation for the public and will be broadcast virtually. More information about indicating interest to be on Task Force and meeting dates will be sent to those school communities later today.
Boundary Process Community Input Sessions and Survey
There will be two in-person Community Input Sessions where all parent-guardians and members of the public can attend to review proposed boundary scenario(s) and provide feedback for Boundary Task Force consideration. The draft scenario(s) and an online survey will also be available to community members who cannot attend the in-person input sessions. The two Community Input Sessions will be held on:
- January 20, 5 - 7 pm, Location TBD
- January 22, 5 - 7 pm, Location TBD
Appeal to Access Accurate District Information
We encourage our school community to access accurate information through the district website, FAQs and Parent Square communications. If additional information is needed, please contact the district directly and we will do our best to address questions as efficiently and effectively as possible. We know that social media has its benefits for quick communication; however, we also caution using this medium as the only source of information as it often lacks key context, accountability to accuracy and respectful dialogue.
We understand the tenderness of the recent decisions, and commit to restoring trust, providing hope, and continuing the tradition of excellence in education that this community has invested in and deserves.
