The West Linn-Wilsonville school district allows coverage for unregistered and registered domestic partners. The premium for coverage of a domestic partner will NOT be different from the premium for coverage of a spouse. You are required to fill out the Domestic Partner Affidavit within seven (7) days of completing your enrollment.

Please note: The IRS does have tax implications that will be charged to your monthly paycheck.

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District offers Flexible Spending Account options.  Enrollment is based on the fiscal year.  Enrollments may occur during Open Enrollment along with the rest of the district-sponsored benefits.

Voluntary Life Insurance helps protect and secure your family’s future in the event of death.

West Linn-Wilsonville School District offers the opportunity for you to purchase additional coverage for yourself and for your family members.  Your election may be made in $10,000 increments, not to exceed 5 times your salary or $300,000, whichever is less.

For Voluntary Life on yourself, your spouse, and your children, you are only eligible for Guarantee Issue amounts if you are a NEWLY ELIGIBLE employee of West Linn-Wilsonville School District.

Otherwise, coverage elected will be subject to completion and approval of the Statement of Insurability form. Email the form to Membership@USAbleLife.com within seven (7) days of submitting your enrollment.

Co-Insurance: Co-insurance refers to money that an individual is required to pay for services, after a deductible has been paid. Co-insurance is often specified by a percentage. For example, the employee pays 20% toward the charges for a service and the employer or insurance company pays 80%.

Co-Payment: Co-payment or “copay” is a predetermined (flat) fee that an individual pays for health care services, in addition to what the insurance covers.  

Deductible: The amount an individual must pay for health care expenses before insurance (or a self insured plan) covers the costs. Benefits subject to a deductible are typically not also subject to a deductible. 

Dependents: Spouse, domestic partner and/or unmarried children (whether natural, adopted or step) of an employee participant. Exclusions: Medical services that are not covered by the health plan.

In-Network: Providers (physicians and other healthcare professionals) or health care facilities which are part of the health plan’s network with which it has negotiated a discount. Plan participants usually pay less when using an in-network provider.  

Lifetime Maximum Benefit: The maximum amount the health plan will pay in benefits for an individual plan participant. 

Limitations: A limit on the amount of benefits paid for a particular covered expense. 

Network: A group of doctors, hospitals and other health care providers contracted to provide services to health plan customers for less than their usual fees.  

Out-of-Network: Refers to physicians, hospitals or other health care providers who are not participants in the plan’s networks. Expenses incurred by services provided by out-of-network health professionals may not be covered or are covered after a higher deductible and co-insurance. You pay more when you use out-of network providers. 

Out-Of-Pocket Maximum: The amount of money that an individual must pay out of their own pocket before the plan will pay 100% for an individual's health care expenses.  

Pre-Admission Certification: Approval by the insurance carrier for a person to be admitted to a hospital or in-patient facility, granted prior to the admittance. The goal of pre-admission certification is to ensure that individuals do not receive services that are not covered by the plan, including services that are not medically necessary

Q. What Will My Insurance Out-of-Pocket Be?

Out of pockets for full time Licensed Employee are based on a pool concept. These amounts will not be known until after the close of the open enrollment period (end of September). The Classified rates are based on the Cap and are posted on the Benefits page of the district website.

Q. When Does My Health Insurance Go Into Effect?

October 1 of each year unless you are hired mid-year. Then the date your Insurance goes into effect would be the first of the month following your date of hire.

Q. I Have Recently Had a Life Event.  How do I go about changing my insurance?

Please reach out to Payroll and Benefits to help you with the Qualifying Life Event.  PR-BEN@wlwv.k12.or.us.  Please keep in mind that you have 30 days from the Qualifying Life Event to complete any changes. 

Q. I Have a Domestic Partner - Can They Be Put On My Insurance?

Yes, domestic partners are eligible for benefits. When enrolling a domestic Partner, an affidavit will pop up. This will need to be filled out and sent to the Business Office for approval. Please note that there will be a tax implication on the domestic partner coverage.

Q. When Should I Receive My Insurance Cards in the Mail?

Two to three weeks after you enroll however during open enrollment this could take a little longer.

Q. What Do I Do Before I Get My Insurance Card?

For Medical - Your doctor's office may need to re-submit claims to the insurance company.

For Prescriptions - You would be reimbursed:  The reimbursement forms are available above in the forms section.

Q. What Is a Flexible Spending Account and How Can It Be of Benefit to Me?

This allows you to pay for certain health related and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars. These expenses include health, dental, and vision premiums, un-reimbursed medical costs and child care.

Q. How Are My Benefits Affected if I Am Working Part -Time?

You must be working a minimum of .5 FTE to be eligible for insurance and you would be responsible for a percentage of the premium due each month. In other words, there would be more out of pocket expense incurred monthly.
