• "If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot." -Stephen King

Hello! My name is Sarah Blattner, and I am a new English teacher on the Arts & Tech High School team this year. I am very excited to get to know the students and families!

I teach world myths and the hero’s journey, American Literature, and World and British Literature. All three courses are designed to challenge students' reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills, in preparation for career and advanced learning beyond Arts & Technology High School.

For me, at the heart of the classroom experience is helping students discover the joy of reading and writing for lifelong learning. I tell my students that writing is like a muscle, and we will tone and sculpt our writing muscles through a workshop model, daily. We will build our stamina and skills in three modes of writing: argumentative, narrative, and informative/explanatory.

We will engage in three kinds of reading, which will build our literacy skills and a culture of reading in the classroom:

    • Anchor Texts: Whole class text study
    • Literature Book Clubs: Small groups formed from a selection of text offerings
    • Independent Choice Reading

Please visit my blog and website for more detailed information on each English course. Students will access assignments and course resources through Google Classroom. The best way to contact me is through email: blattnes@wlwv.k12.or.us.

I look forward to an engaging year of reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking!
