Journalism at a Glance

Do you love telling a story? Want to work a camera behind the scenes?
If so, the Journalism Career Technical Education (CTE) program might be a good fit for you! You will learn how to professionally and accurately cover stories and gain skills in communication, leadership and business. Classes in the Journalism CTE program create content for WLHS NOW news media site. You'll also have the opportunity to work as part of a team to produce the schools yearbook, which earned national recognition last year! Watch this video produced by student Audrey Krake to take a look at what happens behind the scenes of the yearbook publication.

CTE classes meet graduation requirements and help you gain skills for various careers in multimedia and journalism. Even if you do not end up in this exact career path, you will gain valuable skills that transfer to the path you end up choosing. Participating in a CTE program looks great on your resume and on college applications.

How to join the program: When you select your elective class(es) choose one of the introductory class(es) to see if it is a fit for you. If you like the class, then you can take the intermediate and advanced classes throughout high school. Students who complete 3 credits in this CTE program receive a cord at graduation.
