ROBOTICS I (8328)

One semester course / .5 credit course

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: None

Graduation Requirement: Applied Arts

Robotics I is an introductory course designed to give students a fun and interactive way to learn the concepts of robotics. No prior computing or robotics experience required. In this hands-on course students learn to build and program a robot using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit. Course work is generally self paced, with a set of learning targets. Students will learn about the parts of a robot, motors and sensors, and how to program the EV3 Controller. They will learn about basic building strategies and using sensor feedback to make a basic robot to move accurately while performing tasks. Students will also begin to learn about some advanced programming concepts like loops, conditionals and math operations. Towards the end of the course, students will have a project where they can design and build a robot using the concepts they learned.
