    Hi Lowrie Families!
We are so appreciative at how the students have been flexible with the use of our library and borrowing books this school year. Thank you for the continued support of the library and we are already looking forward to what next year will bring. Please keep the following dates in mind so that we can take inventory of our books as we close out the school year...
    • Last library checkout is during the week of June 1st - 3rd
    • All library books are due back by June 18th
    • If students have lost their books, please contact Mrs. Smith to make a plan
Let the librarians know if there are any questions.

    Many thanks,
    Erica Hironimus & Tracey Smith

  • library service updates

    Dear Lowrie Families,

The Lowrie Library will be making a few changes as the Hybrid Schedule is implemented across the grade levels. Please know that the library is accessible to all students, whether they are coming to school, remaining in CDL, or a part of the online FuelEd program. The librarians are ready to help in any way needed!

For CDL and online students: Not much changes for you and how you access the library. Please continue to use Destiny Discover to log in and put books on hold. You will be able to drop off and pick up library books on Fridays from 12:00-2:00pm in front of the school.

For Hybrid students: As your grade level returns to in-person learning, your teacher will designate a day to check out library books. Due to CDC guidelines, we will not be able to have students in the Lowrie Library. However, kindergarten and 1st grade students will be able to choose books by using an “interest survey” in class or through their Google Classroom (please ask your child’s teacher to learn more about this). Grades 2-5 will continue using Destiny Discover to check out books virtually during class time. The librarians will deliver each child’s library books to their classroom within the week. There will be “book return” bins near your child’s classroom for books to be returned.

Please keep in mind that each child’s library account has a limit for checkouts. Once books are returned, they will be quarantined for 24 hours and then checked in to open up a spot for new checkouts.

We have many wonderful library books ready to go home with your child! Thank you for your patience as we adjust to new library procedures. Please contact the librarians, Mrs. Hironimus or Mrs. Smith, with any questions.

  • ORCA

ORCA for all 4th & 5th Grade students!

Our Teacher Librarians have gotten everything ready for our 4th and 5th grade students to enjoy the Oregon Readers Choice Award (ORCA) program again this year. There will be an informational meeting held via zoom on December 9th for all interested students.

Students should check out the ORCA lesson in their Google Classroom. There you will find trailers for all 8 of this year's titles, along with information about how to get a copy of the books you want to read, a code to join the ORCA Google Classroom, and zoom links for joining monthly book club meetings.

This is an excellent opportunity for our kids to engage with their peers and enjoy great books! See this flyer for more information, or contact Mrs Hironimus hironime@wlwv.k12.or.us

  • BCCCA

    BCCCA for all 2nd & 3rd Graders!

The Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award (BCCCA) is an optional reading contest to encourage reading by highlighting good quality literature (fiction and nonfiction) written on the second through third grade reading level, taking into account text, format and the illustrations of the books. This contest introduces books that students may not otherwise find on their own and that are super fun reads!

Click here to learn more about the books and how to participate.
