Putting Content on your Homepage
There are 12 different types of content that you can place on your homepage, and they are all listed at the top. To add any of them onto your homepage, simply “drag” one of the boxes below the “Home” text until you see a dashed rectangle. Then you simply “drop” it into place.
You can drag the blocks around the page, if you have more than one. To remove the block, simply click on the “X” in the upper right-hand corner. To change a setting of the block, click the pencil/edit icon next to the “X”.
Basically, self-evident. You get a mini word processor to type up something. You can change the color of the font, add hyperlinks and emoticons.
A Google map. You type in the address and it will find it. The default length of the box is 300, which basically makes a square block on the page.
Like the text box, but you can ONLY type text without any kind of formatting.
You get a very basic set of art tools to create your own piece of artwork. You can also upload an image (jpg, png) and edit it.
You can upload an image (jpg, png, gif), plus resize it.
You can upload a collection of images, and Learner Journey will show them, one at a time, in that window block.
Post a link to a website, and that link will appear on the page. (No preview.)
Upload a file, of ANY type, and it will store it on the Learner Journey. A link to the file will appear on the page, so that if anyone clicks on it, the file will download onto their device. There is no preview of the file.
You can upload a video (FLV format only) or audio (MP3 format only), and that video or audio will play directly through Learner Journey site. That is, it will not need to be downloaded.
[Note: zamzar.com is a website that converts media for free. It will email you the video or audio after it has completed.]
You can upload documents (PDF, DOC, ODT only - not DOCX), where it can be viewed directly on your homepage. That is, it will not need to be downloaded.
Note: most of the documents created in Microsoft Word are DOCX, so you would need to open it and “Save As” a “Microsoft Word 97-2003 Document” to get the right type. (You can’t simply change the file extension from DOCX to DOC.)
You can paste the URL to a Youtube video and it will play directly on your homepage.
You can upload images (JPG, PNG) to be viewed directly on the homepage. Small versions of the images will show up in the box, but you can click on them to be seen in a larger view.
Overall Look of Your Homepage:
To change your profile picture, click on the “Manage Portfolio” link on the homepage. Then, on the left-hand side, choose “SETTINGS”. If you have an image you would like to use (JPG, PNG), then simply click “Choose File” next to “New Profile Picture”. Find the file on your computer and click “Open”. Your new profile picture should be there.
To change the coloring scheme, click on the “Manage Portfolio” link on the homepage. Then, on the left-hand side, choose THEMES. Then, select either “Early Years Themes” or “Fun Themes”. Then, select one of the themes shown.
