• Students in various OIT clubs are interested in volunteering and helping with STEM and engineering related events, programs, and activities—all clubs have required service hours in order to be officially recognized by OIT

    Potential areas of interest for students are: 

    o   Robotics 

      • Mentoring all girls robotics teams at middle schools
      • Coaching robotics teams at the primary level
      • Helping to coach robotics teams at the middle school level
      • Helping with the high school FIRST Robotics Challenge team
      • Helping 2nd grade teachers with the LEGO robotics program
      • Teacher training/ support with LEGO robotics and engineering curriculum/ units

    o   On-going LEED building features studies, education with studies about technologies and design features, efficiency studies, etc. at new primary schools Lowrie (Wilsonville) and Trillium Creek (West Linn)

    o   Science fairs

      • Volunteering as mentors for ISEF projects (high school science fair projects)

      • Offering enrichment courses related to engineering at primary schools
      • Teacher training/ support with engineering curriculum/ units

     o   Farm to school and sustainability, engineering—on-going maintenance and helping the farmer to do field work, as well as business plan development, student led projects, etc.

    Students interested in working directly with students through mentor programs or offering after school clubs/ enrichment classes will need to contact the schools directly. The process will be to present a schedule of the program (day of the week, times, location, etc.), as well as an overview of the activity/ club. When approved, OIT students will then need to fill out enrollment paperwork and get fingerprints/ sign the background check release.
