    College Application Process 2025

    Utilizing Naviance

Students applying to four-year colleges and universities must request transcripts and letters of recommendation through Naviance.

Student Information Form - often called a "brag sheet" -

Your Student Information Form is necessary for helping teachers and counselors to write a robust and accurate letter of recommendation for you.  When you fill out this form, you will receive an email copy of the answers.  You can forward this email to teachers who are writing your letters of recommendation.

    Letters of Recommendation

Many colleges and universities require letters of recommendation for admission.  The two types are teacher and counselor (less common) recommendations. You should plan on asking teachers for LOR in person or by email before requesting them in Naviance.  The earlier the better!  Do not request LOR with less than two weeks before a deadline!

Be sure to thank your recommenders for their help, following up with a personal thank you would be customary.

    Common Application

The Common Application (CA) is the recommended form of nearly over 1,000 selective, independent colleges and universities for admission to their undergraduate programs. Many of these institutions use the form exclusively. All give equal consideration to the Common Application and the college’s own form. The concept is simple:  Students complete one Common Application, which is sent to all participating schools to which the student is applying. The procedure simplifies the college application process and eliminates duplication of effort.

    College Rep Visits

Each year, admissions representatives from colleges across the country visit West Linn High School in order to connect with students. Most of these visits take place in-person. Visits take place in the Library at lunch time.

The list can be found on our website: College Visit Calendar
