  • What will the day be like? What hours will my students be at school?

    The school day will run 8:30-2:10 pm, Monday-Thursday and 8:30-12:25 pm Friday.

  • What is Comprehensive Distance Learning?

    Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) is where students take their classes remotely.

  • What is the hybrid model?

    Hybrid learning is an instructional model that engages student groups through access to inperson instruction using staggered schedules and cohorts (A/B), in accordance with public health requirements.

  • Will students have their own computers?

    Most WLHS students who needed a device for learning received them in the Spring and still have them. We will check out additional devices to students at the beginning of the school year. Each student will need to bring their own device to school for Hybrid learning. We will not have students sharing equipment.

  • What is synchronous learning?

    This is learning that happens with live instruction. In WLWV this is through Zoom. Teachers may lead discussions, present material, demonstrate a lab or activity, etc

  • Will attendance be required?

    Yes, attendance is required. Students must attend in person classes or log in to distance learning courses during their scheduled time.

  • How will this be the same or different from Spring Distance Learning?

    Comprehensive Distance Learning will include scheduled daily class meeting times. Students will participate in synchronous Zoom classes where instruction will be live in real time. They will earn letter grades, and have required attendance. Teachers have access to an online learning platform and supportive materials and curriculum with which they can utilize to enhance their instruction. Our staff will participate in professional development focused on high quality instructional practices for distance learning. Students will still have access to counselors, administrators, and their WLHS teachers.

  • Will Zoom sessions/classes be allowed?

    Yes, the district has adjusted the parameters and teachers will be able to host live zoom sessions for synchronous learning, office hours, class discussions, etc.

  • How many classes will students take?

    Each student will take three (3) classes each quarter, for a total of 12 classes this year.

  • Can my student take more than three classes?

    Yes, students will have access to a possible fourth class if they are interested. This will be an online learning class through one of our online learning platform partners. Students may coordinate this with their counselor based on their individual need or interest.

    Yes, we are planning to award A-F letter grades.

  • Can my student still earn dual credit through CCC for some courses?

    Yes. Dual Credit classes are offered at WLHS in courses where the individual teacher is qualified and approved to teach those courses. This will be an option available through the Hybrid and Comprehensive Distance Learning Model.

  • My student is served by an IEP or 504, how will this work?

    Students served with an IEP and 504 will continue to receive their services as indicated. Case managers and counselors will work with families and individual students to determine how these services will occur.

  • My student receives English Language Development instruction, how will this work?

    Students who qualify for ELD, will continue to receive ELD instruction.

  • When and how will students get their schedules?

    We are working in a new student information system called Synergy. Once schedules are complete we will send a message out with instructions about how to access them in Synergy. We hope to have schedules available the week before school starts.

  • How will cohorts be assigned?

    Cohorts will be heterogeneously divided in a way that allows us to balance class sizes, consider individual schedules and needs and minimize the size of student cohorts.

  • Can I request a specific cohort for my student?

    Families may email the principal and submit their request. Please don’t reach out to individual counselors. All requests will be considered but may not necessarily be fulfilled depending on cohort balancing, etc

  • If I sign up for the WLWV K12 Online Program, can I return to WLHS?

    If you are in grades 9-11, you can return to WLHS for the 2021-2022 school year.

  • Will masks be required?

    Yes, all students and staff members participating in-person and on campus classes will be required to wear masks. We will provide each student and staff member a school-logo mask to wear. Individuals may choose to wear that mask or one of their individual preference.

  • How will contact tracing occur?

    We will work with our school district nurses, and county health department to coordinate these efforts and communicate accordingly with families.

  • How will school spaces be cleaned?

    Spaces will be cleaned thoroughly each day. Staff will have supplies to clean spaces and equipment between groups of students and students will have access to handwashing stations, and sanitizer.

  • Where will students eat lunch?

    Students will eat lunch in a designated space. Lunch will occur at the end of the school day so many students may choose to take lunch and go home, or eat off campus. There will be snack/nutrition breaks built into the longer class periods.

  • Can I access school meals on my “off” cohort day?

    Yes, school meals will be available for students who are not in the building for school. There will be a designated area for pick-up and take-away.

  • What about co-curricular activities?

    Co-curricular activities, (athletics, theater, music, journalism, clubs, robotics, etc) are the highlight of the school experience for many students. We will carefully evaluate our ability to hold these activities with health and safety in mind. The time or season of these events and activities may be altered for this school year. OSAA has made adjustments to the season. Specific details can be found on the OSAA website.
