  • Join a District or School-Based Committee

    The West Linn-Wilsonville School District welcomes parent and community involvement and input. Parents and community members eager for a voice in school district decisions have many opportunities to get involved at both the school and district level. The District and School Board are interested in increasing public involvement at all levels of education discussions.

    These are some of the groups you may wish to inquire about or join:

    School Board

    The School Board is a group of five elected volunteers who make budget and policy decisions about West Linn-Wilsonville schools. Individually, each contributes hundreds of hours each year attending Board and Committee meetings, public events, and school events. Board meetings are open to the public and are held second and fourth Mondays, usually starting at 6 p.m. in the district Boardroom at 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin, OR 97062.     Budget Committee

    This committee’s role is to present the annual budget proposal to the School Board. The committee meets for an Orientation Session in the winter and then for 2-3 meetings to review and approve the district Budget. Membership includes all five elected School Board members plus five community members appointed by the Board. For information, contact Chief Financial Officer Son Le Hughes.

    Long Range Planning Committee

    The Long Range Planning Committee is a seven-member citizen committee responsible for guiding the development of the Long Range Plan, that provides a rational framework for evaluating and addressing future school facility needs as the West Linn and Wilsonville areas grow.     MAP (Music and Arts Partners)

    This group of community volunteers works to raise funds to distribute resources and materials to support the music and arts programs in our school district. To get involved or make a contribution, contact volunteer leaders at www.musicandartspartners.org.

    District/Board Advisory Committees

    These short-term, task-defined groups operate as a representative body of the school community providing input and guidance on Board-district-level decisions involving district initiatives, programs or practices. The committee involves volunteers (selected by the Board or District) and may be composed of staff, parents, students and/or community members. Examples of these committees include boundary task force committees, bond summit committees, and safety advisory committees. They report to the School Board, and their meeting minutes are discussed and reviewed by the Board. (E.g. Board Safety Advisory Committee, 2018)

    Parent and District Special Education Collaboration Group

    In addition to the involvement that parents have in their individual child's special education plan, we value collaboration with parents on ways we can work more effectively as an organization to support all children. The Parent and District Special Education Collaboration Group provides an on-going venue to learn together and help our school community to continually improve in our supports for students with disabilities.     Parent-Teacher Groups/School Site Councils

    These groups (PTA, PTO, PSS, Booster Clubs) work in each school to enrich the academic, co-curricular and social-emotional experiences of our students as well as enhance our school communities. These volunteers work alongside the principal, teachers, students, and community members to raise funds, bring in special speakers, host curriculum-based events, host social events and partner with the school district to represent the school community at large.

    In our schools, our PTA/PTOs serve as our school-based Site Councils. They provide input and advice to the school leaders regarding the development and implementation of the school improvement plan and ways to increase student achievement and prioritize inclusive practices.

    School Equity Teams

    Each of our schools has a school-based Equity Team. These teams meet to ensure that our schools operate with inclusive practices and develop goals and implement activities that raise awareness, understanding through examining experiences and practices that both align as well as inhibit equitable outcomes for all students.  School Equity Teams involve the principal, staff, students and provide opportunities for parent involvement/voice through surveys, invitational events and partnering with the PTO/PTA.  For more information, contact the school principal.
