Science Inquiry and Engineering Fairs
Students in grades K-12 engage in active scientific inquiry by developing independent research projects in science or engineering.
In primary school, students participate in non-competitive, school-based science fairs. Students will also have the opportunity to bring their project to the annual district-wide science fair, the CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium (CJGSS).
In middle school, students participate in the competitive, district-wide science fair, the West Linn-Wilsonville Middle School Science Fair (a program of the CJGSS). If their project qualifies, students have the opportunity to attend the Northwest Science Expo (NWSE; the statewide science fair) and are nominated to apply for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (a nationwide science fair).
In high school, students are supported to pursue a year-long, in-depth research project. CREST staff assist with the development of research plans and connect students with mentors who are experts in the field. Final projects are judged at the annual CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium (CJGSS). If their project qualifies, students have the opportunity to attend the Northwest Science Expo (NWSE), and the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
