Safe school bus transportation services are the core of what we do at First Student. Our bus drivers ensure reliable transportation to and from schools, activities and events. Our mechanics keep our buses running smoothly. Our dispatchers maintain routes and schedules to help our students reach their destinations in a timely manner. First Student can be reached at 503-570-8604.
School buses are an extension of the classroom, and students are expected to behave well just as they should at school. Students should follow the instructions of the bus driver at all times. Drivers may refer problems with student behavior to school officials.
Before School: Because the buses run on a tight schedule of stops, students should be AT THE BUS STOP 5 MINUTES PRIOR to the scheduled arrival of the bus. If a bus is ahead of schedule, the driver may attempt to wait at the stop for up to 1 minute. Please note that this may mean that the bus leaves the stop even shortly before the scheduled pickup time. In many cases, an extended wait that stops traffic is simply not possible. This is why being at the stop ahead of the scheduled time is so important. On the other hand, for a variety of reasons, buses may be delayed - some wait time at the pickup location will occur at times and we ask for patience and understanding in these situations.
Note that, even if a bus passes a previous stop later in its route, it will not stop to pickup any children at that location except at the scheduled time.
After School: Primary Age students will only be allowed to ride the bus that they are assigned to unless a parent has sent a "Special End-of-Day Request" form to the school. These forms will be available in the school office.
Changes to Pickup/Dropoff Routines: If you have specific requests regarding your child's pickup/dropoff locations that will be routine (for example, every Tuesday), parents should access the school district's ParentVUE system - look for Bus Information. There is a form located there to make such requests. Available space on a bus is a primary consideration when allowing these requests.
First Student has created bus routes and stops based on the residence address of students. Requested changes should be targeted to existing routes and stops.
