Operational Safety Introduction

  • West Linn-Wilsonville School District actively monitors and practices safety protocol and activities on a daily basis in operating all District schools, facilities and functions.

    Operational Safety is a category of safety that incudes routine activities such as;

    • Regular monthly District Safety Committee meetings and record keeping,
    • Annual Training for all Maintenance, Custodial and Grounds personnel;
    • Scheduling, coordination and reporting for all Emergency Drills carried out at each school in partnership with all school administrators;
    • Development and distribution of Crisis Management Plans;
    • Volunteer/Visitor check-in protocol and implementation;
    • Quarterly Inspections of all schools in cooperation with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Oregon OSHA;
    • Building system management and maintenance:
      • Fire Alarm installation, inspection and testing
      • Fire suppression (sprinkler) system inspection/testing
      • Elevator certification/inspections
      • Boiler certification/inspections
      • Kitchen equipment testing/inspections
      • Science laboratory inspection/testing
      • Intrusion control systems
      • Video monitoring equipment
      • Intercom systems
      • Telephone/data system operation
      • Safe/compliant Furniture-Fixtures-Equipment
      • Playground equipment inspections
      • General electrical, plumbing, HVAC system
      • Door locks, keys and hardware
    • Safe Route to School mapping/communication
    • Facility Use safe practice
    • Emergency Exit Plans
    • Proactive safe practice management and operation of student transportation with contracted First Student provider.
    • Athletic field (including synthetic turf) maintenance/testing
    • Earthquake/seismic assessment
    • Wetland/storm water safe management systems

    These, and many more, operational safety related systems and actions provide a comprehensive layer of safety for all building occupants and the public at large.
